LAGOS, NIGERIA, NOVEMBER 2008
This was the first time Africa Express played a formal show on the continent, invited by Femi Kuti to perform at the legendary New Shrine. It was amazing to see his stunning Afrobeat band joined by Flea on bass, Romeo Stodart and Amadou Bagayoko on guitars and the Hypnotic Brass making it a 15-piece horn section. Then up stepped Tony Allen, who helped create this sound with Fela, to join them on drums. Also there were Baaba Maal, VV Brown, Kano, Daara J, Gruff Rhys, Bashy and Jon & Laura from Reverend & the Makers among others.
